Strange or not, people with no tattoos are more uncommon than their inked peers. If we answer the question “and where do you have tattoos?” with “nowhere”, people will probably raise their eyebrows nowadays. Tattoos are as much of a trend now as jeans used to be, although these drawings are there for life. There are a lot of failed, regretted, and unfashionable patterns out there, but an artfully drawn tattoo is worth being proud of: it can be similar to a customized painting, with the difference of it displayed not on our wall, but on our skin. Many people who would never sit in a tattooing chair – some because of the pain, and others because of the irreversibility – are nonetheless huge fans of tattoos from afar. If they want to try out the look of having a tattoo for fun, they are left with henna patterns and temporary pirate skulls from cheap gum packs as alternatives to true subdermal inks.
The patterns of graphic designer Gabriella Szendrey and Stilblog founder Petra Hoffmann are exactly for these people. After much experimentation and planning, the girls recently started selling their temporary tattoos named TATZ, just in time for the festival season. They have been a hit abroad for a while now; we could even see temporary tattoos with recipes in Italy, pasted on the forearm as a kind of cookbook on your skin. So the phenomenon itself is not new, but no one tried their hands at designer tattoos in Hungary before Gabi and Petra.
So far they designed 20 patterns in five themes, but their plans include collaborating with talented young designers and making mini collections with the given artist’s style and ideas. The high-quality temporary tattoos remain on our skin for three or four days if applied correctly – meaning that they can easily last throughout a festival.Currently we can order the colorful tattoos from their webshop, but soon they will also be available in Madách Square’s NON+ shop, Szimpla Design Shop, Insitu, and at different designer fairs in Budapest. No seriousness, no commitment… just a few days of grins caused by the playful patterns on our skin.
