It seems like that we are not the only ones who love Budapest. The famous American magazine, National Geographic, has collected the world''s Top 10 trolley rides. Budapest''s tram no.2 has been awarded with the 7th place, being the best European line on the list, besting Lisbon and Amsterdam tram lines.
This line connects Jászai Mari Square and Közvágóhíd Square, and rides paralell with the Danube, on the embankment of the Pest side. Tram no. 2 was established shortly after WWII had ended, originally operating between Dimitrov (today's Fővám) Square and Jászai Mari square. The terminal station was moved to Boráros Square in 1973, and in the same year its alternate line, 2A began to transport passengers.
It should also be noted that Budapest defeated Amsterdam's own tram no.2, which also passes amazing sights, although they proved to be less specatcular than the Parliament or Buda Castle.
The first six cities of the list created by the magazine are made up of North-American and Asian cities, only four European metropolises could sneak into the Top 10. The first place was snagged by the 501 of Toronto which connects Lakeshore Boulevard with the Beach District. Toronto topped North-American and Asian lines (Seattle, New Orleans, San Fransisco and Hong Kong), then, coming in at sixth place, was Melbourne, and then came Budapest. Berlin, Amsterdam and Lissabon shared the bottom ranks.
