Based on what they prefer to eat in the morning, breakfast enthusiasts can be divided into different categories. Some prefer pastry products, some like fruit or yogurt, and some savor sandwiches... but many people start each day with classic egg-based breakfasts. Full of protein and energy, the oval ingredient is like a culinary canvas to be cooked in infinite variations. If you are a fan of omelets, frittatas, eggs Benedict, or other egg-based dishes that are usually too complicated to cook at home, here are four Budapest eateries to try the next time you crave a protein-rich breakfast.

Szamos Today – eggs Benedict

The new confectionery, bakery, and breakfast restaurant Szamos Today, located at Kossuth Square, became a modernized location of the historic Hungarian sweets brand. The eatery’s view of the Parliament is rather nice, and the upstairs à la carte restaurant offers a wide range of egg breakfasts in addition tothe sandwiches sold downstairs. We tasted the poached egg in the form of an eggs Benedict (1,490 forints + 15% service fee), nested on bread with greaves, spinach, and bacon, and drizzled with savory hollandaise sauce.

Törökméz – omelets

Törökméz is a cute little breakfast place, mini delicatessen, wine bar, and shop in Buda that quickly became a favorite of locals with its small terrace and charming vibe. Guests can drop by for delicious ham-and-cheese platters, granola, or various egg dishes beginning at 8am. Among the latter offer, we recommend the omelet (1,290 HUF) with feta and spinach, served with a classic crescent roll. In good weather, we recommend eating their superb omelet on the terrace.
