We embarked on an expansive journey around Budapest's cozy cafés to find the best places, where breakfast is served throughout the day. We started the expedition with a few goals: to find fine-quality meals, freshly-baked pastries, traditional Hungarian meals, and tasteful international specialties. Now, in our article we present some of Budapest's best eateries that offer hearty breakfast from morning through lunchtime and beyond, through the late afternoon hours.

1/10

Sarki Fűszeres

This little nook is located in Budapest's District XIII and offers heavenly morning meals all day long, such as the piquant sandwich with smoked trout (1,450 HUF), or the plate of mixed delicacies, including salami, ham, and cheese specialties (3,400 forints), but here guests can also choose from a variety of salads.

2/10

KINO Café

Whether you want to order an omelette in the early hours or at midnight, KINO serves a variety of standard breakfast options throughout the day, with a selection including crispy toasts, fresh salads with mozzarella and spinach, served with olive-infused bread on the side. To accompany the tasteful treats, order a creamy KINO caffé latte.

3/10

Villa Bagatelle

Located amid a green Buda neigborhood, Villa Bagatelle boasts a sprawling garden and a graceful interior, and spending breakfast here feels like an upscale treat. Upon our visit, we decided to enjoy a royal feast and ordered Villa Bagatelle's Champagne Breakfast, a fine combination of smoked salmon, creamy goat cheese, citrus mascarpone spread, soft brioche, and a glass of fine champagne.

4/10

Most! Kortárs Bisztró

Located on Zichy Jenő Street, amid the city's bustling central zone, this cavernous contemporary-style bistro offers hearty brunches on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm, serving such hearty boosters as the beef quesadilla, steak and eggs, or the MOST breakfast platter that includes fried eggs, bacon, sausages, mushroom, spinach, steak potatoes, and grilled tomatoes, while on weekdays MOST is open in the morning to offer standard breakfast alternatives.

5/10

Á Table

As one of the most romantic breakfast places in Budapest, Á Table offers French cuisine consisting of delicious pastries like quiche or brioche, or poached eggs, all served from 7am through 11am. We tried the petit déjeuner, a French breakfast plate, including orange juice, coffee, croissant, different types of bread, jam and butter (990 Ft).

6/10

Déryné Bisztró

With a stylish atmosphere reminiscent of Budapest's 20th century coffee houses, this iconic eatery on the city's Buda side features just a few (but beloved) breakfast options. The most sought-after morning meal here is the Eggs Benedict (1,980 HUF), where two poached eggs come with straw-cut potatoes, crispy bacon, home-made tomato chutney, topped with hollandaise sauce and crispy onions, while all is served in a stylish frying pan. Those who opt for Déryné's English Breakfast (2,450 HUF) will be served home-made sausage, chilli beans, fried mushrooms, fried eggs and baked tomato.

7/10

Café Panini

This friendly place in Budapest's District XIII is among the few places in the area that offer filling breakfasts from the early morning hours, including classic French toast filled with ham and cheese, and served with vegetables, Hungarian sour cream and sun-dried tomatoes on the side (990 HUF). To drink, we asked for a Capri caffé latte, an aromatic caffeine-infused concoction with a hint of orange flavor. Besides, Panini has several appetizing meals to try, like the Kaiser roll with tuna paste or the scrumptious cheesecake.

8/10

Gerlóczy Kávéház

As a long-established breakfast place in downtown Budapest, Gerlóczy Café boasts an intimate milieu amid a Parisian-style atmosphere. When we visited, we ordered a freshly-baked croissant with a glass of orange juice, and a strawberry shake. We devoured the croissant with melting cheese and tasteful ham, which provided a perfect kickstart to the day ahead.

9/10

Briós

Located in District XIII, this family-friendly locale pampers guests with fine-quality breakfasts, like crunchy bagel with salmon, boiled eggs, and fresh salad (990 HUF), but we also tasted the chocolate chip cookie latte. On the café's first floor a playground is set to entertain children, making it a cozy locale for a casual morning program with the family.

10/10

Fruccola

Every Saturday Fruccola – located just steps away from the famous Váci Street shopping lane – awaits guests with an all-day brunch offer from 9am to 8pm. To make the most out of the experience here, we ordered a French toast with spinach (1,170 HUF), an English brekafast plate (990 HUF), a Mexican tortilla (820 HUF), and a gluten-free American pancake (1,240 HUF), and to drink, we went for Fruccola's fresh juice selection.
