On every 20 August since it opened,
Müpa
has toasted both the foundation of the Hungarian state and the start of the new season with jazz music. Its indoor and outdoor spaces traditionally resound with the styles of jazz that remain popular with every age group, and there will be no exception this year. From 5 pm, the
István Gyárfás
Trio bolstered by
Balázs Berkes
and
Imre Kőszegi
and the
Pecek
Lakatos
Trio will perform on the Banner Square and in the Glass Hall respectively. They will be joined by soloists who will swell their ranks perhaps to the size of a septet. Concurrently on the main outdoor stage,
Attila Suba'
s SoulFool Band and SoulFool Choir, founded in 2013, will perform the jazz and blues songs of the forties and fifties with youthful élan. The former comprises five members and the latter six, with the choir making it possible for them to take a detour into the world of gospel. From 8 pm, the audience's attention will be directed exclusively to the open-air venue, where the Police Big Band, the resident bringer of good cheer to the series, will be led by
Béla Szalóky
in demonstrating how, when played by a big band, any music, be it from the thirties or naughties, can draw audiences to the dance floor. We promise it'll be worth sticking around on the terrace of the
Ludwig Museum
after the fireworks, too!
