Being a global pioneer in escape-room games with multiple venues for racing against the clock, Budapest is considered one of the world’s best destinations for those who like breaking free from locked chambers by solving logic puzzles. In March, some of planet’s best players collide in Hungary’s capital as the city hosts the finals of the first-ever Escape Room World Championship, a competition organized by Red Bull Mind Gamers – the qualifiers for the contest have been completed, but places are still available for those who possess a winning combination of skills.

With a colorful scene of enigmatic escape rooms operating with diverse themes citywide, the Magyar metropolis is considered an ultimate go-to place for those who like uniting in teams to solve logic games within a specific time frame. As a new addition to Budapest’s global events, the city will serve as the platform for the Escape Room World Championship, a freshly launched international contest that’s debuting in Hungary’s capital by bringing the greatest gamers together to compete in teams of four for earning the esteemed title of the first-ever world champions of the puzzling game.

The tournament marks the finals of “Mission: Unlock Enoch”, an international multi-level competition powered by Red Bull Mind Gamers. Following the completion of preliminary online and national qualifiers, the concluding contest features a complex line of challenges, where peculiar puzzles test the creativity, logic, visual thinking, and strategic skills of the participating teams, with contestants coming from over 20 different countries. Created with thought-provoking interactive content, the state-of-the-art escape room featured during the competition in Budapest is developed by industry-leading innovators, including MIT Game Lab and the Vienna University of Technology. “We thought about ways to embrace the concept of challenging the body and mind with cerebral puzzles that convey a consistent story, reduce dependence on a specific language, and are engaging for viewers,” says Dr. Scott Nicholson, the head of the event’s creative team and an expert in escape-room design.

Although the qualifiers have been completed, wildcard places are still available on the Red Bull Mind Gamers website for four masterminds who want to present their incredible logic skills to the world. Those who fancy using this last chance to join the contest can try unlocking the quantum computer Enoch available on the Red Bull Mind Gamers website – entrants who manage to solve the DxM Wildcard puzzle through February 25th will be part of a raffle to qualify for one of the four available places and take part in the mission.

If you can’t compete in the contest, no problem – you can watch live coverage of the event screening on Red Bull TV on Saturday, March 25th at 8pm, while those who want to play can always solve real-life riddles across multiple thematic escape rooms in Budapest, including at Claustrophilia, an abandoned room of a passionate adventurer; at Pániq Szoba, a fictional hideaway of a perverted photographer; or at MystiqueRoom, where we can explore virtual reality while sitting in a cozy armchair and turning into an avatar.
