The Zwack family liqueur business moved to Soroksári út in south Pest in 1892 but for 40 years after World War II, the firm was rootless until its return in the late 1980s. The visitor centre established here recounts this history in a 20-minute film, also featuring the background behind Zwack’s famed dark herbal bitter, Unicum. The guided tour takes in personal mementoes, a collection of 17,000 miniatures and the classic advertising posters, as imaginative and iconic as those created by Guinness. In the vast basement, more than three million litres of the black stuff are made every year. Here, you can also see and smell all the herbs, part of the secret Unicum recipe. The tour finishes with a sample at the museum’s bar, and the room can be rented for corporate and private events as well.
