The Tropicarium at the Campona mall in distant Buda is mostly known for its huge shark aquarium and 12-metre-long tunnel, where kids can see these frightening beasts up close, even marvel at the courage of the divers who hand feed them. Currently this takes place at Thursday afternoons but even if you miss it, you might just pluck up enough courage to pet a stingray. Other tropical creatures include free-flying birds, jumping monkeys and writhing snakes. An alligator might idle by and groups get to see piranhas in a feeding frenzy. The whole Tropicarium is covered, so it's open in summer and winter, and there's plenty of English-language information, both written and spoken.
