Wandering around District XVI, you can find one of Budapest’s lesser known yet wonderful villa quarters with shaded thoroughfares and elegant summer houses. Though somewhat worn, they still have the aristocratic atmosphere of the turn of the century. The buildings illustrate the era’s prominent, eclectic design, but chalet-style houses with carved wooden façades and Art Nouveau villas can also be found here. If you’d like to know more about the former inhabitants of this villa quarter of Old Mátyásföld, take a walking tour with local historian Ágnes Benedek, the Suburban Time Traveller (Kertvárosi időutazó).
