The Kunsthalle (Műcsarnok) by Heroes’ Square is one of the most prestigious galleries of contemporary visual arts in Hungary. Conceived on the German Kunsthalle model, ie a gallery without a permanent collection but only shows temporary exhibitions, this neo-Renaissance building was erected in 1896 for the country’s millennial celebrations. Its mission is to promote Hungarian and international visual arts, introducing new trends and aspiring artists. The museum also houses a café, which moves to the terrace by the entrance in summer, providing a perfect view over Heroes’ Square.
