Providing a glimpse of what life looked like behind the Iron Curtain, Memento Park is one of Budapest’s most unique attractions, albeit one way out on the city outskirts. A direct bus service leaves from Deák tér once a day at 11am. Displaying the gigantic monuments of the Communist era, removed from the streets of Budapest after the collapse of Socialism in 1989-90, this is a powerful reminder of the era of dictatorship. Once you’ve perused the statues, you nip into the visitor centre to watch a video about training spies. The gift shop’s worth a peruse, too.
