You might not know it at first, but standing before Liszt Ferenc tér is actually the first international gallery in Budapest. But once you ring the doorbell and climb the stairs to the first floor, you’ll find the Knoll, founded in 1990 and showcasing modern art ever since. The founder, gallerist Hans Knoll, started his career in Vienna, but developed an interest in Eastern-European art, and opened this outlet in Budapest. Exhibitions here include pieces by foreign and local artists as well, such as the internationally renowned Ákos Birkás.
