The Katona József Theatre is located in an Art-Nouveau building near Ferenciek tere in the city centre. It has been operating here since 1982, and managed to maintain its contemporary flair and highbrow yet youthful style over the years. Promoting a realist school of theatre, actors and directors are committed to deliver a diverse and fresh style. The repertoire features both classic and contemporary pieces, including works of Hungarian playwrights and occasional English-language productions.
Special outlets within the building include a themed gift shop and the K:antin Café, which is open not only during the intervals, but tempts passers-by during the day with sandwiches, tapas, cakes, drinks and coffee specialities. Payment is by card only.
