The visitors of Holocaust Memorial Centre (Holokauszt Emlékközpont) are welcomed into a unique space. The modern building is organically linked to the Páva utca Synagogue, an authentic venue that once used to be the second largest site for Jewish worship in Budapest. The central courtyard is in the symbolic embrace of six columns and an archway, under which there is an 8-metre-high, black glass wall engraved with the names of the Hungarian victims of Holocaust. The glass hall standing in the courtyard bears the name of “Tower of Lost Communities”, and the names of 1441 countryside settlements are listed on its sides. Visitors are welcomed with an interactive permanent exhibition of the history of Holocaust, a collection of over 10 000 historical memories, a specialits library of 6700 books, a bookshop, a cozy coffee shop, and the services of the Braham Information Centre.
