Looking to plan something exciting for your boyfriend, a fun outing with the boys, or the ultimate bachelor party? In this article, we've put together the top three things that any guy would love to do.

We often hear that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. A good restaurant with a tasty meal or a hip bar with premium drinks is always a good starting point for a guys’ night out. Of course, there’s life beyond the gastro experience, so don’t worry if you’re looking for more active things to do than eating out. Let’s see what we’re living on in Budapest this June!

Preferita Restaurant: dolce vita for the bros

What better way to start our list of great things to do in Budapest for guys than with an authentic Italian restaurant where the Italian way of life is tailored specifically for guys? Opened last autumn, Preferita Restaurant is centrally located near Andrássy út, Budapest’s own Champs-Élysées, and the majestic Opera House, is offering a real treat for you and your friends this summer. If you’re planning a party, the first beer at the Pizza, Pasta, Peroni dinner is on the house. If you’d rather chat in an exclusive private room over a special dinner, you might want to go for their Dolce Vita Gangstertheme. For drink connoisseurs, we recommend Preferita’s whisky, rum and wine tasting events where you can customise the menu to your liking. You can even organise a big-scale private event, be it a birthday party or an unforgettable stag do. Preferita really is more than just another Italian restaurant – it’s a way of life in which the great flavours, the friendly service, and the relaxed atmosphere guarantee that if you come in for a bite once, you’ll return again. It has everything you need for a cool bros’ evening.

Gundel Wine Cellar: wine tasting in true Gundel style

Can you imagine anything better than combining a delicious bite with quality drinks and a unique activity? The Gundel Wine Cellar offers excellent opportunities for all three, and in a very exquisite setting at that. In the heart of Budapest, right under Városliget (City Park), in a 130-year-old wine cellar, you can enjoy a pleasant wine dinner, dive in a blind wine tasting and, of course, have a good dose of playful competition with your dudes. It’s an exclusive event venue with a special atmosphere, which represents the Gundel culinary heritage in Hungarian wine culture. Completely renovated last year, the elegant brick and stone walls, the vaulted ceilings, and the excellent acoustics make it the perfect venue for team building activities, bachelor parties, or birthday surprises. It really has everything you need for a night to remember. Activities are available with a pre-arranged menu and wine selection, and the good vibes are guaranteed to be way cooler than any wine barrel in the cellar.

Budapest Retro Museum: Hungarian nostalgia at its finest

We all want to travel back in time sometimes. If you and your friends are ready to take a trip down memory lane to the Hungarian past, the Budapest Retro Museum is the place to be. Step into the 1960-80s and get ready for a wild ride without seatbelts. It’s Eastern Europe after all! Patrol the streets of a socialist housing estate in a real Lada police car simulator, get into a sidecar of a Pannonia motorbike, or peek out into outer space in the footsteps of Bertalan Farkas, the first Hungarian cosmonaut. For lovers of military equipment, the exhibition also includes a 12-metre anti-aircraft missile. You can also admire football relics of the 20th century, retro quartz games, and an original Commodore 64 computer. To complete the nostalgia trip, head to the museum’s Retro Bistro to taste the humble meal of sausages with a pint of ice-cold Kőbányai beer – just like the Hungarians did in the olden days. The braver ones can even try the bistro's alcoholic jellies in Unicum, Aperol, and brandy flavours. On Thursday evenings, the bistro has a special menu for men: a pint of beer with sausages and bread (and of course, mustard and ketchup) or a slice of “zsíros kenyér” (bread with lard, rings of sliced onion, and a hint of paprika).
