Choosing the item of jewellery that is right for you is not an easy task, since most of the time it is not simply a decorative accessory, but a necklace or an earring that might be worn for years, and that shows the wearer's personality. Statement jewellery is progressive and thrilling, and often make a statement about trends, styles, tastes and even the arts. In recent years, there have been an increasing number of people turning to this field in Hungary, and many have progressed quite far - even on an international level. Here are our favourite Hungarian jewellery brands.

JUJJ

Janka Juhos' jewellery is something unique on the Hungarian market. The brand, that has been around since 2010, unveils prominent but light pieces from season to season - some of which have been introduced in New York, Helsinki, Paris and Moscow in recent years. The JUJJ workshop has already produced wonders like the spectacular, collar-like neck piece and bracelet of a breath's width of beech mounted on a metal plate, as well as a collection of jewels made of metal threads, resembling huge, organic pods. Janka Juhos's freshest series, which is her diploma work, is the Limited-Un-Limited bracelet family that comprises of limited and numbered pieces as well as models in wider production. The aim is to dissolve the tension between unique and larger production items. In harmony with the winter season, graphite grey, chocolate brown, turquoise, and white variations were added to this range of marvellous bracelets.

dorivisy

Although Dóri Visy founded her brand just a few years ago, in 2011, she won Entrant of the Year at the Jewel of the Year contest. She organises her unconventional jewellery into thematic collections, but she makes only one of each. Her source of inspiration is without exception nature - sometimes she draws on the shapes and lights of the autumn woods, sometimes she is captivated by the diversity of the world of minerals. Her latest collection, Waves, was inspired by the ever-changing blues and whites of the sea. The creation of each handcrafted piece requires meticulous work and patience, but they are light, durable and waterproof despite their large size. The slightly transparent plates of various hues are made from a blend of Japanese paper and resin, while fine layers of the necklaces and bracelets are fastened by tiny silver studs.

Despite the fact that she's been to London, Milan and New York as a fashion designer, Adrien Nagy founded her jewellery brand in Budapest. With only 2 years of design experience, her style is refined and her creations are a peculiar transition between precious metal jewels and mass produced trinkets. Her detailed and prominent necklaces and broaches display a mixture of finely cut crystals, glass beads and plastic elements of wonderful hues, which come to life when worn, thanks to the changing lights. The autumn-winter collection by Rienne Creations are characterised by the unique deep matte hues (created with platinum and gold-infused glass stains from the atelier of glass artist Balázs Sipos). These items stand their ground among the accessories of a period movie, on the catwalk and in the world of a confident modern woman.

EVE

She loves spectacular, but minimalist shapes and believes that jewellery is like an item of clothing. Éva Reményi works primarily with copper and silver and her works are characterised by the use of the artistic language of architecture, and the manifold repetition, layering and stacking of simple shapes. In harmony with fashion trends, EVE rolls out two collections each year. Last year, she entered into cooperation with the designer of Zigi Brand, Zsigmond Oláh, together with whom they've elaborated on the theme of winter 2014, hunting, making use of mutual inspiration. Their joint work will extend into the next season as well; the summer collection will already be available in December. Following the dominance of warm winter yellows, the summer will be all about jewellery wonders among the lines of reservedly elegant shapes tuned to white and grey.
