NATIONAL RESTAURANT WEEK 2026
From 1 to 18 October, National Restaurant Week returns for its 30th edition, offering a chance to dine at some of Hungary's best restaurants. More than 150 restaurants are taking part this autumn, including plenty of newcomers, established favourites and restaurants recommended by the Michelin Guide or awarded a Bib Gourmand. Participating Budapest spots include 101Bistro, Baalbek, Marumba and Time Out Market Budapest, among many others.

DEEP PURPLE AT BUDAPEST ARENA
With more than five decades behind them, Deep Purple are one of the defining bands in rock history, with iconic tracks such as Smoke on the Water and Highway Star becoming touchstones for generations of music fans. In 2026, the legendary band is heading out on a European tour, with Budapest Arena among the stops. At the 2 October concert, fans can certainly expect to hear some of the band's best-known songs, although Deep Purple may still have a few surprises up their sleeve as they continue to push the boundaries of the genre. Rising British band Jayler will join them as special guests in Budapest.

GREEK-HUNGARIAN FEMINIST BOOK CLUB MEET UP
This special feminist book club and reading event brings American writer Hope Reese and Greek feminist writer and poet Zelda Burns to Budapest. The programme includes a discussion of Reese's The Women Are Not Fine, a visit to feminist library Közkincs Könyvtár, and a Greek-Hungarian slow dinner at Fabrik celebrating inspiring women.

DOGZ THE GREAT WALL WALK
On 3 October, hundreds of dogs and their owners will set off on a walk together from St Stephen's Basilica, following Andrássy Avenue all the way to City Park. Organised by the NOÉ Animal Shelter Foundation and We Love Dogz to mark World Animal Day, DOGZ The Great Wall Walk continues in City Park with plenty of extra activities, including games, a raffle, talks and a few surprises. Beyond bringing dogs and their humans together for a fun day out, the event also aims to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership and the importance of adoption. Participation is free, but registration is required.

SOLYMÁR GARAGE SALE FESTIVAL 2026
The Solymár Garage Sale Festival takes place for the first time on 3 October, with locals opening up their gardens and garages for the day to sell items they no longer need. Browse everything from children's clothes, toys and books to furniture, gardening tools, kitchenware, sports equipment and retro finds. More than 80 locations are taking part, all marked on a shared map, so you can easily turn your treasure hunt into a walk around the area or combine it with a visit to the ruins of Solymár Castle.

INTERNATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL 2026
The 31st Budapest International Book Festival returns from 1 - 4 October 2026, this time at a new location: HUNGEXPO Budapest Congress and Exhibition Center. Book lovers can browse a wide selection of titles, including books in English, while this year's programme puts German-language literature in the spotlight, with Germany, Austria and Switzerland joining as guests of honour alongside the Frankfurt Book Fair. Irish novelist, poet and playwright Colm Tóibín will be the festival's guest of honour and a nominee for the Budapest Grand Prize. To mark the 50th anniversary of Irish–Hungarian diplomatic relations, several other contemporary Irish authors will also be welcomed to Budapest.

MAKERS' MARKET
Fény Street Market gets a creative makeover on 4 October, when nearly 100 Hungarian designers and makers gather for the next Makers' Market. Expect illustrations and prints, ceramics, jewellery, fashion, accessories and homeware, alongside a curated selection of food and deli products. Music from DJ Donnie Jep and Kisjankó will accompany the browsing, while TAXITURI, the community clothing project run by Adománytaxi, will also return with a selection of second-hand pieces whose sales support the foundation's work.

KRÁTER MARKET: REMARKET X MOME FAIR X FRANC - FAIR AT THE ROLLING MILL
Kráter Market takes over Hengermalom, bringing three different fairs together under one roof. At the ReMarket flea market, you can browse retro, vintage, mid-century, folk and antique pieces, from furniture and lamps to jewellery and clothes. MOME Fair will showcase graphics, jewellery, ceramics and more by students and recent graduates of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, while vintage shop Franc joins with its selection of unique and old finds. Music and food will round out the day, and entry is free.

BUDAPEST CONTEMPORARY ART & DESIGN FAIR
Budapest Contemporary returns for its fourth edition, bringing together leading galleries, artists, collectors and contemporary art lovers in the Hungarian capital. More than 30 contemporary art galleries will take part, keeping visual art firmly at the heart of the fair. This year also brings something new: for the first time, Budapest Contemporary will feature dedicated design and jewellery sections, with a total of 40 participants, alongside a special programme by a contemporary fashion designer. The expanded programme offers even more ways to discover current trends and creative talent across Budapest's contemporary art and design scene.
