More and more restaurants in Budapest are adapting to the current situation by starting up home-delivery services and takeaway. Below, we list a number of eateries whose dishes can continue to be enjoyed at home during the shutdown. We can expect more and more restaurants to start offering food delivery, so look out for later updates. Food can also be ordered to your door online via Netpincer (english.netpincer.hu) and Wolt (wolt.com/en).

Babel Budapest

Michelin-star Babel and its stablemate KIOSK restaurant were quick to announce that they will be converting to home delivery only. As owner Hubert Hlatky-Schlichter says, the interest of the people comes before any financial or economic consideration. Although this was a difficult decision for them to make, delivery is the safest current option. They are hoping that people will take this opportunity to support staff and enjoy this kind of high-class, inventive cuisine.

Dobrumba

Just across the road from the Great Synagogue, Dobrumba was nearly always filled with visitors. Now, at least, you can get to enjoy their magnificent Middle-Eastern dishes in the comfort of your own home by takeaway or delivery. The menu runs, as they suggest, from the Atlas mountains to Mount Ararat, the hot and cold mezze selections including pomegranate chicken liver, and Moroccan classic harira of spiced-chickpea, lentil and vegetable soup. The Levantine roasted vegetables with a thick tahini cream is also recommended.

Empanada Story

Representing the best of Argentinian street food, Empanada has been offering tasty treats since last autumn. This outlet on Nagymező utca will be closed for the foreseeable, but their empanadas and other treats can be delivered to your home.

Health and help are the watchwords here!

Igen

The local pioneers of celebrated Neapolitan pizzas at Igen now will bring your food to your doorstep. Although this kind of pizza is best straight out of the oven, they made sure to prepare them to taste just as good after a short trip. Those living nearby can pop in to get their margherita, marinara or mastunicola, among many others, as takeaway is also an option.

Kelet Kávézó és Galéria

The most popular of the many cafés on Bartók Béla út, the Kelet is now offering its soups, salads and sandwiches as takeaway options between 9am and 5pm. Customers are being asked to pay by card if possible. Oh, and the quality of the coffee hasn’t diminished, either!

11/16

The Ono Poke Bowl Bar has given local diners exotic variety ever since they introduced Hawaiian cuisine to Budapest. Order their colourful, nutritious and tasty options until 7.45pm (7.30pm Sundays) through Netpincér or Wolt. If you’re around Bartók Béla út in Buda, you can also order their dishes for takeaway.

12/16

Padthai Wokbar

The Padthai Wokbar has fans all over town, who would be most disappointed if they had to miss out on their versatile dishes for long. There’s no need to worry, as the wokbar has been accustomed to taking their treats to people’s homes, and will continue to do so during these challenging times as well. Home delivery and takeaway (from their outlets at Nyugati station and Kolosy tér in Óbuda) are offered 11am-10pm, while the restaurant is still operating, factoring in social distancing, from 11am to 3pm.

13/16

Pastrami

Pastrami up in Óbuda has also made big changes – they have created a takeaway menu, consisting of the dishes most liked by their guests. The shortened selection includes Pastrami’s best sandwiches, such as pulled pork, and Hungarian-style favourites such as Újházi chicken soup. You can order on their website and pick up your food at their address.

Vakvarjú

Vakvarjú has prepared four of its outlets for delivery – through Netpincér or their own website – but takeaway is available as well. Although with a slightly different menu, the orders will live up to the homely, comforting and traditional flavours that visitors have been used to. Home delivery (390 HUF) through the restaurant is for customers in Districts II, III, IV and XIII only. Takeaway (11am-10pm) is from the restaurant at XIII. Bessenyei utca 4-6.
