The only thing that's better than ending a night out with friends singing ABBA, Michael Jackson or Prince, is when you can scream your lungs out while having control of a microphone too. And that's where karaoke bars come in. Luckily, Budapest has some in which you can give singing your best shot - no matter how good (or bad) your voice is! Combine it with some great friends and some alcoholic beverages and this could be the funniest and funnest night you've had in ages. We recommend forgetting your inhibitions and checking out one of these karaoke bars.

Janis' Pub

By far one of our favourites among Budapest's karaoke hotspots, on the Pest side, is Janis' Pub. Located on a narrow cobblestone street that screams Europe, this is a British pub dedicated to Janis Joplin. Good people and awesome Joplin memorabilia, a place to make memories worth remembering. Anybody can hit the stage and sing his or her heart out - not only because the karaoke is free, but because it's open to everyone. The karaoke floor can host 100 people (so you can form an A capella band if you wish). The area can also be reserved for private parties. You can choose from more than 30,000 songs and you can follow the lyrics on two screens. Hungarian, English and Russian lyrics are available. Although Thursday, Friday and Saturday are the official karaoke days, you can organise Singstar parties on the other days too.

Joiner's Pub

It's just a few minutes walk from Nyugati Railway Station to one of the most popular karaoke bars in Budapest. One reason Joiner's Pub attracts so many visitors night after night is that the bar has really reasonable prices. The other major drawcard is, of course, the karaoke. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff are friendly and if you feel like you have to let off some steam you can do so in the form of singing a song. What's not to love about this place? About the karaoke, it is free of charge, they have three microphones for as many people as dare to sing. They have about 13,000 Hungarian and 20,000 foreign (mostly English) songs. You can rent a private karaoke room, which is also free of charge. One drawback for those who don't have incredible memories is that there are no screens where you can follow the lyrics, however, after a few drinks maybe this doesn't matter anymore.

Open: Monday - Thursday 4pm - midnight. Friday 4pm - 3am, Saturday 6pm - 3am

Ypsilon Café

Located a bit further out of central downtown Budapest, Ypsilon has a classy atmosphere upstairs within the restaurant and a sassy nightlife downstairs where karaoke reigns supreme. A good option for singers, especially if you want to enjoy a good dinner beforehand.

Morrison's Music Pub/Opera

Not to be confused with the boogie venue Morrison's 2, Morrisons Music Pub is the closest to a New York bar in Greenwich Village that you can find right here in Budapest! It’s tucked underground off a side street next to the Hungarian State Opera. It’s cramped capacity is not for the claustrophobic or those with intimacy issues but it is for those who dig dive bars, sublime spirits and good times.

Address: 1065 Budapest, Révay utca 25.
Open: Monday - Thursday 9am - midnight, Friday 9am - 4am, Saturday 11.30am - 4am, Sunday 11.30am - 10pm

DoReMiFa-YA

DoReMiFa-YA is different from the already mentioned places, as it isn't a bar, it's a specialised karaoke place that you can rent for the enjoyment of some awesome karaoke. There is a Japanese and an a European style room and both can host about 7-8 people. The prices are 3000 HUF per hour for one group between 12pm - 6pm, and 5000 HUF per hour for one group between 6pm - 12am. The karaoke machines know around 40,000 Japanese tunes, 4,660 English songs and some Chinese and Korean hits too. You can follow the lyrics on a screen. Reserve a room here.

Tuborg Csapoló

Every Monday is funday for karaoke lovers at Tuborg Csapoló, as on that night they can't just enjoy a beer (or a pálinka), but they can also let their voice out and sing along to their favourite songs. Thousands of songs in fifteen languages - there is literally isn't a song you can't ask for. The staff is friendly and the sound system is outstanding. Surely one of the highlist of the roundup. We also have to mention, that there is a beer tap at some of the tables, so you don't even have to get up from your set if you would like another round.

Old Rams Music Pub

Old Rams is not so far away from the Kodály Körönd metro station, and still holds it's position as one of the good choices when it comes to where to spend the night. Especially Saturday nights, when the pub is all about karaoke; they even have a host, who communicates with guests and encourages them to show what they've got. They also have darts, pinball and table football - what else can you ask for?

Address: 1062, Budapest, Székely Bertalan street 11.
Open: Tuesday - Saturday, 5pm - 5am

8/9

Gourmand Café

Altough the place is a weird mix of a cafeteria and a dessert bar, which turns into a pub with the night, some of our most memorable karaoke night outs happened here. They take place on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, after 9pm; the staff is friendly, the place is nice and the drinks are very well-priced.
