Let the kids take over at MiniPolisz
Ever wondered what your little one would be like as a firefighter, vet or shopkeeper? At MiniPolisz, children can find out for themselves. The miniature city on Király Street lets kids aged 3 to 12 try different professions and everyday situations through role play, from working in a supermarket to putting out fires.
There are more than 30 activities to explore, so it's easy to spend a good few hours here. And since everything happens indoors, MiniPolisz is an especially handy option when Budapest's weekend weather has other plans.

Take the Children’s Railway to Normafa
A train journey where children help run the railway is already a pretty good start to a family day out. The Children's Railway winds through the Buda Hills between Hűvösvölgy and Széchenyihegy, with young railway workers taking on many of the roles along the route under adult supervision.
Hop off around Normafa and make a day of it with a walk through the forest, a stop at the playground and something sweet along the way. It's an easy way to combine the excitement of the train journey with a few hours outdoors – particularly when Budapest is showing off its autumn colours.

Spend a family day at Tropicarium
This Campona attraction is home to sharks, alligators, exotic reptiles and amphibians, monkeys, birds and colourful fish, with different sections taking visitors from freshwater habitats to the tropics and the sea.
One of the highlights is the 12-metre shark tunnel, where sand tiger and brown reef sharks swim overhead, while the ray pool offers the chance to get even closer to some of the residents. Over in the rainforest, tropical rain falls above the alligators every 15 minutes, adding another bit of fun for younger visitors. With plenty to see beyond the aquariums, Tropicarium is an easy choice for a family afternoon - especially when the weather rules out an outdoor adventure.
