Prints, ceramics, scarves, candles, socks, hats, and notebooks – the local design fairs are brimming with top-notch accessories. What makes these events extra special is their pop-up nature; they don’t happen all the time, but when they do, you’re in for a lively atmosphere with workshops, live music or DJ sets, and even a drink or two while you browse. Here’s a roundup of where to go if you fancy buying directly from Hungarian makers.

Makers' Market Budapest

Makers' Market Budapest is powered by two creative talents: Boldizsár Károly, founder of Bomo Art Budapest, and Petra Hoffmann, the mastermind behind Stilblog – both practically stamps of quality. At least once a month, you can browse and shop from a selection of contemporary artisans. On the Buda side, you can usually head to the Fény utca Market, while in Pest, the base is MOST Bistro. But here’s the twist – Makers' Market loves to keep things interesting with pop-ups in unique, surprise locations. So if you're ready to meet the makers, mark November 17th on your calendar; this time, they’ll be setting up at the Villányi út Conference Centre.

Budaro

Budaro – meaning 'market' in Esperanto – is Budapest’s latest design fair, launched this autumn with the backing of the Bartók Quarter. Its locations are rooted in District XI: it first popped up at Zsiráf Tranzit, then Hadik Café. Each designer is either a local or finds their creative spark in the neighbourhood, making Budaro a true reflection of the area’s spirit. The final Budaro stop of the season is at Művház (formerly Zipernowsky Studio) on November 16th, where established designers will showcase alongside fresh faces and up-and-coming brands, all at the start of their creative journeys.

WAMP  - the Hungarian Design Market

It's safe to say that WAMP was the city's first designer market, and it's now celebrating its 18th year. WAMP has seen its fair share of unique venues; for years, it was held at the Bálna, it even pops up in Vienna's city centre, and it's also a regular at Budapest Design Week. Now it's moved to an even more striking location: on one Sunday each month, you can browse local designers' creations within the industrial walls of the Eiffel Műhelyház (Eiffel Art Studios), where you can also chat with the makers themselves. The next market is on November 10th – entry is free, and you're welcome to bring your dog along!

Here you’ll find everything from baby and mama accessories to gourmet treats and natural skincare, and yes, dogs are welcome too! The next events are set for November 9th17th, and December 8th.

Szimpla Kraft

On the third Saturday of every month, the eclectic spaces of Szimpla Kert, the city's most iconic ruin pub, fill up with local makers and their unique creations. It’s the perfect spot for anyone on the hunt for gift ideas, one-of-a-kind designs, and handmade items. Expect to stumble upon all sorts of treasures, like mushroom-shaped lamps, handcrafted wooden jewellery made from reclaimed and salvaged wood, or quirky papier-mâché figures. The next market is set for November 16th!
