BLTN Gin
Bring a little Balaton zing to chilly December when you buy your loved one a bottle of BLTN gin, fresh from Hungary’s favourite summer getaway. Grapes not grain make this spirit softer than its competitors, the classic Muskotály variety from Balaton, with a touch of Tihany lavender, elderberry and quince thrown in for good measure. Add a stylish black bottle superimposed with the iconic shape of the lake, bluer than blue, and your only-in-Hungary Christmas present is complete. It even comes with its own Balatonic mixer! Made in Somlóvásárhely, available from the webshop. More details here.

capital of paprika and what could spice up your Christmas dinner better than an
authentic chili sauce made from burning red peppers? Hard Core Chili, a
small-batch Hungarian business, covers all bases. Founder/owner Béla Fodor decided
to follow his passion and produces chili goods for fellow paprika lovers. He
and his team have designed mugs, T-shirts, tote bags, various objects and
ornaments, all patterned with funky chili, of course. Apart from that, they
offer a selection of more than a dozen sauces, including smoked paprika, honey
with chili, and paprika in whisky, just to mention a few. They’re continually expanding
their range, so it’s worth keeping an eye on their website. Meanwhile, their aprons
and paprika-red hanging clocks would make fancy additions to the pile under the
Christmas tree. A webshop will be in operation from early December. More details here.
