Giuseppe Verdi’s grandiose opera can be enjoyed online in Italian with English and Hungarian subtitles on 20 February from 8pm. The premiere of this performance of Don Carlos will be staged by internationally acclaimed director Frank Hilbrich:

“16th-century Spain. State and Church are engaged in a ruthless and devastating struggle for dominance. Every rebellion and attempt to establish a humane social order is strangled at birth. Humanistic ideals are doomed and promoting them results in people being burnt at the stake by the Inquisition. The greatest victim is the king’s son, Prince Don Carlos. He dares to love, to step up for the freedom of the oppressed and to challenge Church and State. With his opera, Verdi paints a frightening picture of human civilisation”.
