As part of its upcoming Season of the French Muse, the Hungarian State Opera pays tribute to composers inspired by Gallic culture. At the first premiere in 2021, an opera by Italian composer, Umberto Giordano, Andrea Chénier, about the life of a French poet and revolutionary, can be seen live on stage of the Erkel Theatre. Backdropped by history, betrayal and love. Giordano's work includes popular revolutionary songs, including La Marseillaise. Director Fabio Ceresa returns to the Erkel after three years, his production aided by spectacular, age-appropriate sets and costumes designed by his regular co-creators, Tiziano Santi and Giuseppe Palella. At this premiere, the lead role will be played by László Boldizsár, the orchestra and choir of the Hungarian State Opera conducted by chief Music Director Balázs Kocsár.
