Sonic Youth
founder-guitarist
Thurston Moore
released his latest solo record last year. He’ll come to Budapest on his
"The Best Day"
tour, and play on
A38
with such rock legends as the bassist of
My Bloody Valentine
and
Primal Scream
, as well as the drummer of Sonic Youth.
Thurston Moore, the founder of Sonic Youth, the key figure of
noise rock
, the ex-husband of
Kim Gordon
, the eternally experimenting, the forever fresh-faced artist, who’s been treading the fine line between pop, rock, avant-garde and contemporary music, surely needs no introduction.

Born in 1958, Moore has been a leading player since age 20 on the New York music scene called, for lack of a better expression, post punk-no wave - a world, which audiences last got a glimpse of at the December A38 gig of
Lydia Lunch
. In 1981 he founded Sonic Youth together with Kim Gordon, a band which undoubtedly became the most prominent rock band on the east coast, and influenced popular music for the next three decades
from Nirvana through Laurie Anderson
to European avant-garde jazz.

Perhaps even more amazing than Sonic Youth’s minimalist punk-noise rock music is Moore’s productiveness. His cooperations in performances and projects and soundtrack contributions could fill pages and pages, not to mention that in the past 20 years he has released four solo albums. His most recent record came out last year: released by Matador, "The Best Day" features less radical music than the songs of Sonic Youth, while having depth and being well thought through. Moore recorded "The Best Day" with a supergroup, and luckily for the audience, these musicians will accompany him on the tour as well. This way not one, but four legends will grace the stage: Moore, the fantastic British guitarist
James Sedwards
, the iconic bassist of Primal Scream and Sonic Youth
Debbie Googe
, and the drummer of Sonic Youth
Steve Shelley
.
