Five round-the-world trips, 1,250,000km by aeroplane, 325,000 negatives and 1,637 articles. The oeuvre of Paul Almásy, a Hungarian-born photojournalist born in 1906, occupies a prominent place in the history of Hungarian and French photography. As a photojournalist, he toured almost every country in the world except Mongolia, which was also the title of a 1985 exhibition in France. His oeuvre is currently managed by the Berlin Press Photo Archive, the Archiv für Kunst und Geschichte, but his works can also be found in many public and private art collections, including the Mai Manó House. This spring, you can see a part of his wider collection, with subject matter ranging from street life in Saigon to volcanos in Peru.
