Between 4 and 17 March, the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Centre is hosting an exhibition by Tamás Urbán entitled Unwanted Butterfly.
“Unwanted Butterfly spent half of his 40 years behind bars, so he had plenty of time to have his whole body tattooed. He was an unusual sight in Socialist Hungary, comfortable both in prison and the Budapest underground scene, doing gigs with the famous band Sziámi in alternative club Fekete Lyuk, drawing, painting, creating puzzles, and writing a journal. Photojournalist Tamás Urbán met him for the first time in 1988, at Csillag Prison in Szeged. This exhibition presents a selection of photographs taken until Butterfly’s death in 1994, objects and documents collected by Tamás, and Butterfly’s journal.” (curator István Virágvölgyi)
