One of the most popular bands of the Danish new wave,
Sleep Party People
returns to
A38
after two years. The rabbit mask-donning ensemble, led by
Brian Batz
, knows perfectly well how to mix slowed down shoegaze and contemporary electronica. Hungary’s
Dear
will be the supporting act of the event.
Hiding behind rabbit masks,
Sleep Party People
is actually the one-man project of Danish Brian Batz. The name is pretty accurate: the melancholic electro-shoegaze music made by the electronica and new wave maniac multi-instrumentalist sounds as if it were made for “the people of sleep parties”.

Sleep Party People is not even a real band: at the concerts and studio sessions rabbit masks cover the faces of the collaborating artists, out of whom Batz is the only permanent member. Batz has a great sense of how to capture the atmosphere of today’s generation and zeitgeist that encompasses the slowed down electronica of Boards of Canada, the grim new wave of Joy Division, the new romanticism of
Cure
and
My Bloody Valentine
, the minimalism of contemporary music, the space music of post-rock…

After listening to the band’s 2010 debut album,
Trentemøller
asked Sleep Party People to be his supporting act, which was followed by a tour with
Efterklang
and then a gig at Roskilde Festival. Starting out as a bedroom-artrock project, SPP has outgrown itself, and boasts YouTube videos with millions of views and a dedicate fanbase. Sleep Party People returns after two years to A38 to present its new record Floating, which came out last year.
