The Norwegian
Shining
has been to
Budapest
this year in
Barba Negra Club
, organized by
A38
, as the opening band for Devin Townsend.

The serious and brilliant “
fjordcore formation
” returns this fall to
A38
, to show what real, uncompromising jazzpunk is like.
Shining
, the project of singer-saxophonist-frontman Jørgen Munkeby, started off as a relatively modest acoustic jazz band fifteen years ago, then slowly began shifting towards
rock
,
progrock
, and then towards crushing, punk-industrial
progressive metal
.

"
Blackjazz
" – this is how Shining describes its music: it is
metal
and
jazz
, with some contemporary classical music and new wave electropop mixed in, along with a lot of avant-garde. At first glance, this description might sound alarming, but the unique, effective and definitely not anti-listener music of
Shining
is a real specialty.

The
opening band
,
Caligula's Horse
(Caligula Lova) from Brisbane mushes the finest
mathcore
traditions together with a bit of
progrock
. The band formed in 2011 and released its first, serious and deep concept album,
The Tide, The Thief & River's End
in the same year. The quality of their powerful and sweeping progressive metal is well illustrated by the fact that these days, they accompany
Tesseract
on their Australian tour.
