Portrait of Humanity 2020 displays the winning images of a worldwide collaborative photography contest, aiming to prove that there’s more to humanity that unites us, rather than what sets us apart.
2020 has been a year of unprecedented global struggle. Now, perhaps more than ever, we should try to find solace in what makes us human: hope, courage, moments of reflection, periods of resilience, first hellos, last goodbyes and everything in between.

The exhibition tells stories from around the globe: Eric Demers’ portrait of Greta Thunberg addressing the largest demonstration crowd in Canadian history, Marie Hald’s celebration of self-love and acceptance in her portrait of body-positive activist Marte, Mirja Maria Thiel’s moment of deep intimacy between a married couple of 60 years, as well as Snezhana von Buedingen’s series following Sofie, a 19-year-old girl with Down’s Syndrome, as she transitions from girl to woman.

Above all, the winning works intimately capture the values that lie at the heart of the Portrait of Humanity movement: individuality, community and unity.
