To challenge the Nature-Culture divide, as well as to criticize the essential understanding of nature and what is natural, Bruno Latour coined the term “Nat-Cul.” Ever since the biblical creation myth, humans have never ceased to assume responsibility for taming nature. In his Herbarium exhibition, the artist is turning nature into culture - plants into art objects. With laborious effort, he is transposing and giving new meaning to the shots of his father’s garden, left without the gardener’s care after his death. The primary activity and personal work of the artist, while cleaning up the garden, becomes visible in the exhibition through the organic matter left by the trails of minute creatures on the leaves. This matter is often like a mesmerizing map: the remains of dead fruit trees and sick and fallen leaves gain new meaning, becoming curious subjects of a Nat-Cul installation.
