Várkert Bazaar will be a temple of literature again from 10 October with the start of the Margó Festival, one of the most significant literary forums in Hungary today. It brings together authors, writers, poets and a broad variety of visitors. Alongside contemporary Hungarian authors, the autumn festival focuses on contemporary international writers as well.

This year’s international guests are André Aciman of Call Me by Your Name fame, Elisabeth Asbrink, Afonso Cruz, Emily M Danforth, Sissel-Jo Gazan, Kim Leine and Jón Kalman Stefansson, and there will be introductions of new Hungarian publications by the authors themselves.

Festival events run parallel with a book fair, and literary events are supplemented by concerts and theatre shows. The autumn festival also hosts the award ceremony of Margó Prize, awarded every year to the best volume of prose fiction in order to support young writers at the start of their career.
