The 31-year-old rapper Kendrick Lamar conquered the world with the 2012 album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, that won him seven Grammys. Since then, he has collected 12 more and in 2017, he became the first non-classical, non-jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN. Lamar is one of the few artists who manage to win over both the critics and the audience, by not jumping on any bandwagon but harking back to the jazz and soul roots of hip hop.
