Organized by the Hungarian Heritage House and Concert Centre and hosted partly by the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Folk Dance Day is traditionally held on the anniversary of the first urban “táncház” in Hungary (a traditional gathering with live music, where anyone can join in and learn some dance steps). A trophy - the violin once owned by Béla Halmos, famous Hungarian folk musician – will be presented to a musician under 40, actively playing traditional folk music, who, in the course of his/her work, maintains contact with Hungarian communities living beyond the country’s border. A concert at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music opens the event series, that will continue the following day on Liszt Ferenc Square, in front of the Írók Boltja bookshop where the first “táncház” was held.
