This is a concert of
classical
music, where original
folk
instruments and folk music can also be heard, and the compositions of Bartók and Kodály will also be played on folk instruments, with piano accompaniment. The concert is the brainchild of Balázs Dongó Szokolay, who has long harboured the ambition to show how naturally folk instruments can act in classical music.
Both as a performer and composer, Balázs Dongó Szokolay has been long interested in the interaction of archaic kinds of music, irrespective of their genres – in how different trends in music influenced each other over the centuries. Balázs Dongó Szokolay and Balázs Szokolay both admire the music of Bartók and Kodály. Each seeks to approach these composers with as much authenticity as possible. For the first time in the world, some of Bartók’s works will be performed on a sheperd’s flute at the concert.
