Anastasia Khoroshilova, born in 1978 in Moscow, studied photography at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. Her work has been displayed at numerous exhibitions worldwide, including solo shows at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Venice Biennale, Kunsthaus Baselland, Maison Européenne de la Photographie and Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The scene of this exhibition is set in Bezhin Meadow in the Russian countryside, immortalised by writer Ivan Turgenev and film director Sergei Eisenstein. This is where Khoroshilova returned after 12 years to visit the locals she photographed in the early 2000s. She studies everyday life with the eyes of an anthropologist and unveils the disintegration of rural society with a new realistic approach.
