Photographer Ádám Urbán documented the life behind the gates of the Aszód Juvenile Detention Centre, following the steps of his father, Tamás Urbán, who also took photos there 40 years ago. Both collections are on display at the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center from 10 December, displaying the different styles of two generations on the same subject. According to Ádám: ‘The detention centre is a special place: living here is both a punishment and an indispensable help for the inmates. As a photographer, I spent some time with the men living there and I got a peek into how their closed community is, rejecting all outsiders. They didn’t accept me at first, but then they got used to my presence; they started to like me and let me in their inner circle’.
