Budapest's inner 7th district, also known as Erzsébetváros, the party district, and the Jewish Quarter, is brimming with narrow, winding streets, cool bars, multicultural eateries, and eye-catching painted murals. However, you'll have to look hard for green spaces. That's why it's such great news that Klauzál tér – a little pocket of greenery near Klauzál tér Market Hall – has been renovated. After a four-year rehabilitation process, it's been reborn as a vibrant community space, complete with a revamped dog park, playground, fitness park, and a multifunctional sports pitch.
After being neglected for years and merely serving as a recreational area for locals, the municipality decided to give it a glow-up on their own budget in 2020. The goal was to increase green spaces and create an area where families with children, dog owners and their pups, and sports enthusiasts can all enjoy. So, 19,000 plants were added, resulting in a 4,763-square-metre green space, along with three drinking fountains, bins, bicycle storage, and new street furniture.
What's more, a circular memorial has been erected to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust in Budapest, with this very square at its centre. All in all, on your next meander through the district or on your way to Szimpla Kert, make sure to cross the square – it's a true gem amid the concrete jungle.
