The McDonald's at Nyugati Railway Station, named one of the most stunning in the world several times, shut its doors in January for a glow-up. But now, it's back in full glory – or at least in a modernised version, meaning you can once again indulge in a Big Mac inside its glamorous and historic walls.

In 1990, Hungary's second Maccy D's opened amid great anticipation, taking over an old restaurant within the Nyugati Railway Station complex. Its stunning building was designed by the renowned Gustave Eiffel Company – the very same firm behind the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Pyramid, and the Statue of Liberty.

The building retains its original architectural features inside and out, including antique lamps, a wrought-iron gate, painted stucco ceilings, and wall designs. No wonder it has often been named one of the most beautiful McDonald's locations in the world. In January, the fast-food restaurant closed for renovations, which introduced special interior design elements and natural materials. After months of restoration and modernisation, it's not ready to welcome guests once again.

This glow-up was the final stop in the domestic restaurant renovation program that has been ongoing since 2019. That included the upgrades to kitchen technology and the introduction of digital innovations like touchscreen kiosks. You can now also place an order through the McDonald's mobile app and have it delivered directly to your table. What's even more unique – and a highlight of this fast-food restaurant – is that

The interior of the restaurant follows a standard design concept, however, this location stands out with mirrored glass surfaces, copper-covered light fixtures, and custom furniture elements. Natural materials, such as wood, copper, and leather, were used throughout, while the floor got a cast terrazzo finish. Given the building's historic significance, the renovation involved close collaboration with monument preservation specialists and restorers.

A huge change is that the McCafé has been relocated from the gallery level to the left side of the entrance, making the upper level fully accessible to guests. The outdoor area behind the restaurant has also been updated, transforming into a lounge-style terrace. More special features will soon be introduced at this iconic location, with details to be revealed later.
