International delivery driver Dávid Könyves has long seen a gap in the market in his native Hungary. While hot dogs here are tiny, his idea is to chop up the ingredients and stuff the roll with them. Ta-da! SliceDog! With trusty, one-eyed rescue pup Captain Jack Sparrow at his side, Dávid has just opened a tiny outlet behind the major Pest crossing point of Blaha Lujza tér.

Right opposite a dog course, a world of flavours has been packed into a small space on Stáhly utca, with dips and toasted baguettes to complement the frankfurters.

SliceDog is so tiny you’ll only be able to sit on the soon-to-open terrace of a few square feet, but this is street food as it should be, freshly cut, prepared and served, all amounts in the right proportions and of superior quality to other examples of the genre.

This world of flavours includes Budapest with mushrooms, bacon and cheese, Athens with feta and tzatziki, Warsaw with mushrooms, dill and sour cream, Easter Island with cheese, boiled egg and sweet cucumber, all priced between 1,800-2,000 forints.

You can also choose a homemade pickled cucumber with sesame seed and a dip (4/6 pieces, HUF 490/590), a coated sausage with a dip (HUF 590), or with an Angus sausage, 990 forints.

Seeing the steady rise in prices in stores, this place have to may follow, but it’s basically all been put together on a whim and a promise by the personable Dávid and his one-eyed companion with separation anxiety and a string of Instagram followers.
