The National Association of Journalists has been presenting their award-winning pictures since 1981. The Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition turns 40 this year, so between 21 April and 29 May, the Capa Center pays tribute with a special anniversary event.

The first official Press Photo Exhibition was held in 1982 at the R-Club of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Because of the unexpectedly great interest, the exhibition had to move to a bigger space a year later, and it soon became one of the most popular events of the Budapest Spring Festival in 1983.

This year, the exhibition at the Capa Center has been curated by photojournalist András Bánkuti, illustrating the past 40 years of Hungarian press photography with thousands of images. These are not just great pictures, but they also offer an outlook on important events in Hungary, while showing everyday life at the same time.

In addition to the renowned photographers, contemporary newcomers will also be represented at the exhibition such as Ferenc Markovics, Imre Benkő and Tamás Urbán. Alongside, are two photographers from the We Love Budapest team, Sándor Csudai and Attila Polyák.

When you look at the displayed images from the early 1980s to 2022, you realise how much the world has changed through the years. Hungarian photographers are a talented bunch, and fortunately there is an upcoming generation to follow.
