Balance Bistro & Delicates sits in a cellar of Váli utca near the major Buda crossing point of Móricz Zsigmond körtér, its sophisticated, homely, modern rustic style the backdrop for fine Hungarian wines, substantial breakfasts, even cocktails on Friday nights.

The tiny cellar entrance to Balance Bistro & Delicates can easily be missed. Though close to the Allee mall, it’s a million miles away. It’s the kind of place where you enter for a ten-minute shop and find two hours have gone by.

Is this a deli? A breakfast spot? Or in a bar? It’s all three in one. Here, clearly, variety works. István Mitlasóczki, Bence B Németh and Katalin Őry have put their heart and soul into a solid venture, surrounding themselves with raw ingredients, produce and objects that happen to give them pleasure. The message is clear, the mood communicated.

Hot breakfasts with eggs, grilled goats’ cheese, a selection of Italian hams, balsamic vinegar from Modena, cheeses such as appenzeller, provolone, landana and brie, Taittinger champagne, Holdvölgy wines, serious chilies, mixes for gluten-free brownies, Hungarian new-wave coffee, sandwiches, bagels… and if that’s not enough, cocktails are served at one of the tables, actually Singer sewing machines, in the separate bar area on Friday evenings.

You won’t found anything that isn’t high-quality. The attraction of Balance lies in its atmosphere, in sharing food, drink and good company in comfortable surroundings. And all a few steps from the array of bars and galleries on happening Bartók Béla út.
