Budapest100, an annual weekend-long event in which flats and courtyards otherwise closed to the public are thrown open to showcase urban history, is taking place on 11-12 September. This year’s theme is post-war planning and architecture, highlighting the new buildings and cityscape which emerged after the two global conflicts.
The watchword for Budapest100 2021 is Redesign, showing the role that urban planning and architecture had on the city after the two world wars, particularly post-1945.
More than 40 houses will be open to the public and, although most of the guided tours are given in Hungarian, the walks are still fascinating, providing access to properties which are otherwise the private domain of their owners for 364 days a year.
