Opposite beautifully renovated Rákóczi tér, at József körút 35, stands Beerstro 14. In addition to 14 special and particularly tasty artisanal beers, the place also offers an appetising selection of dishes, most notably steak. Hanger steak is their speciality, a real rarity. Revamped for the reopening, with an expanded menu more in line with a bistro experience, Beerstro 14 welcomes guests once more, assuring them that there are no changes where beer is concerned – it’s business as usual!

There is a growing trend among craft-beer pubs to offer their guests not only quality brews but also matching foods. And Beerstro 14 has been following this principle ever since opening – as its name indicates, now they’re putting the bistro into Beerstro with the help of young head chef Benjámin Fehér. With this move, they’re now in a different league, as real steak delicacies are on the menu!

Domestic pubs in Hungary have had to undergo quite a renewal over the years, and here, we are thinking not only of the pandemic, but also of significantly changed consumer habits.

Even when they opened last spring, the owners already had the idea that they not only wanted to open a new craft-beer pub, but also a place where they wanted to emulate the quality of these small-batch brews with cuisine in mind. This way, guests don’t have to choose between looking for a delicious dinner or the best beers, they get both under one roof.

Of course, the Beerstro team were also greatly affected by the closures, but they spent this period usefully, developing their kitchen technology and testing domestic meat suppliers until they were finally convinced by a producer from Nádudvar and the quality of his raw ingredients. This is how the surprise offer of the reopening, the steak platter, came about!

One of the owners worked for several years in hospitality in New York, at a reputable steakhouse. He climbed up the ladder, gaining valuable experience in the world of steak, so it was almost inevitable that this would be his line of business once he came back home.

Given the precious time granted by the shutdown and those previous encounters, the decision was made to awaken the need for quality steak in Budapest. In addition, a variety lesser-known in Hungary has been put on the menu, hanger steak, the absolute highlight here.

In addition, without wishing to be exhaustive, you can also find picanha (rump steak), rib-eye and sirloin. We’re probably not alone in salivating as we speak. And for those who can’t choose from the many great options, there’s the two-person steak platter where everything can be found.

Incidentally, the place has been designed not to be an exclusively elegant steakhouse with white tablecloths, but a comfortable and casually smart bistro with quality steak and mostly craft beer.

However, the overall picture is much more complex, and that’s by no means the end of what’s on offer. As mentioned, it’s no coincidence that Beerstro 14 is the name of the place: 14 taps showcase the best of Hungary’s domestic small-batch brewing. The selection is just as impressive as the food menu, as they continue to attract the local beer-loving crowd with a balanced range. Everyone will find something to their liking, from IPA to lager to heavy stouts.

The list of draught choices is constantly changing and if that weren't enough, you can also find the latest releases by Hungary’s independent producers, as these always appear along the bar counter at Beerstro 14. For those still looking for something else, we would recommend the more than 60 types of bottles and cans in the refrigerators.

Although Beerstro 14 focuses primarily on beer and the heavier meat dishes that go with it, including steak, those who love wine and do not eat meat will find something here, too. A couple of vegetarian dishes are also available, and the local wine offer is considerable – sourced from the Balla Géza cellars in the historic wine region of Ménes – while the whisky selection is equally strong, along with other spirits on the drinks list.

The Beerstro 14 team are always striving to have something new on offer and to make the place a little different from the rest. They want to keep developing, primarily by constantly listening to the needs of their guests.

Homeliness is achieved not only by the really friendly design of the place, but by everything in general, so when a guest makes tracks home from Beerstro 14, it should feel like they’re leaving home to head home.
