Every year, Hungarians dispose of 250,000 tons of waste packaging at Christmas, much of it non-recyclable such as glossy wrapping paper.
To counteract this problem and create a game out of something throwaway, designer Dénes Sátor has come up with an environmentally conscious solution and original activity.
Using Újpalota as his model, the housing estate founded in 1969 to celebrate 50 years of the Soviet Revolution, this graphic artist has illustrated his unique wrapping paper with elements from the era of mass communal housing. Features from the children’s playground, people’s windows and daily lives await colouring pens once the wrapping is disposed of.
There are also a series of stickers to go with it.
You can order your Mini City wrapping paper here – the site is Hungarian-only but the purchasing instructions are pretty straightforward. You can also find out more in English from Dénes’ Facebook page.
