We have reported several times on the wonders of Culinaris, where they not only gather special flavours and dishes from different parts of the world, but also constantly seek out and support domestic small-batch producers.
Now they have created an exciting series on their newly launched YouTube channel, Meet The Locals. Here, you can get to know the faces behind the Hungarian products lining the Culinaris shelves, even if you can’t meet these producers in person.
To see the English subtitles for the Hungarian dialogue, press the button fourth from the right after you click through.
The videos follow the history of a product, from raw ingredients through production and preparation, to the store, showing not only the fruits of their labour, but also the passion and perseverance needed to build this kind of small business.
Did you know, for example, that the headquarters of bedrock.farm is located downtown, in a farmhouse on Lónyay utca, where a huge array of
micro-greens, herbs, edible flowers and leafy greens are lined up in rows?
In the
first part of Meet The Locals, you can get to know the story of Endre Szűcs and
Bence Balázs, who talk about their start-up and its challenges, and provide a glimpse
behind the scenes of the production process.
Shared story
“Our shared story with Culinaris began in 2020, when we were looking for a place for bedrock.farm’s products, to share a similar set of values and a mutual commitment to choice and quality,” bedrock.farm co-founder Endre told We Love Budapest.
“Basically, chefs and restaurants are looking for our micro-greens but there is a growing need to get involved in culinary adventures at home, so Culinaris was the perfect choice. They were partners from the start, so the general public can now get to know the products of bedrock.farm. The video series fills a gap in the market, we really enjoyed filming it, it was a wonderful experience, and we’re excited about the stories of other producers as well,” Endre said about the film shoot.
In the videos to follow, we will explore exciting worlds such as the wonderful life of bees, the everyday activities on a goat farm, the tradition of bakers and responsible vegetable growing. Look out, too, for films about the inner workings of a winery, a glimpse into the tricks of cordial-making and the secrets of flower production.
The topics seem very promising indeed, encouraging you to not only buy local but also learn about the stories of the producers.
