With the renovation of the Chain Bridge soon under way, details have been released about the eco-friendly LED lighting that will transform its appearance after dark.

As we reported recently, the long-awaited renovation of the Chain Bridge is due to start in February. Work is expected to run until 2023, with this historic landmark closed to traffic for 18 months.

Now more information has emerged about one particular aspect of this major revamp: the lighting. Budapest Transport has created a Hungarian-only infographic showing a breakdown of the major eco-friendly changes.

A total of 1,510 LED lights will feature throughout, far longer-lasting, less power-hungry and therefore better for the planet than the current ones. Their colours can change to suit the occasion, such as for national celebrations.

Lights will also garland other parts of the bridge, such as the famous lion statues guarding each end.
