After years of delay and debate, renovation work on the Chain Bridge can at last start by the end of February. With the tender now granted to A-Híd, work will continue until the revamped bridge is finally unveiled by autumn 2023. An iconic symbol of Budapest, this first permanent crossing between Buda and Pest has long needed strengthening, repairing and renovating. The bridge will be closed to traffic for 18 months.

According to Budapest Transport (BKK), the Chain Bridge will be renovated over 18 months, from late February, with the final handover coming in the autumn of 2023. It is estimated that the work will cost a total of 18.8 billion forints.
