The transport hub in Szentendre, an atmospheric riverside getaway 40 minutes from Budapest, is to undergo a complete transformation. The HÉV rail terminus and adjoining bus concourse are being completed revamped into an intermodal complex, with a significant commercial element, a P + R facility and plentiful cycle storage.

In addition to the Szentendre terminus, the H5 HÉV rail line direct from Batthyány tér will also be renewed, barrier-free stations built, and the ageing track out of Békásmegyer, the halfway point from town, will be eliminated.

As well as a 300-space P + R car park and 300-rack covered bicycle storage, improved visual and audible passenger information will also be installed.

Retail outlets will be added – earlier this spring, a terrible fire completely destroyed a major SPAR supermarket alongside the station.

According to the schedule, the work will start in 2022 and run until 2025.
