Festival organisers, the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre, have
underscored this year’s event with one particular slogan: ‘Reconnect’, as in reuniting
the individual with the community, the artificial with the natural. These
themes appear in the festival’s award-winning and recently premiered films.
The festival has long presented these relevant issues concerning architecture and urbanisation, providing important topics for discussion.
Urbanisation, unemployment, the risk of eviction and the destruction of natural habitats are becoming more important each year, especially as the pandemic wreaks havoc across the planet. Tourism-dependent cities are facing serious economic challenges, while inequalities between wealthier and poorer neighbourhoods are more pronounced, further isolating different sections of society.
The closures have also brought about a few positive changes: urban green space and eco-friendly technology are now more valued, while cohesive neighbourhood communities, charitable food distribution and other supportive actions have helped the most vulnerable groups to cope with the crisis. The event will feature numerous films focusing on the positive, too.
In 2020, nearly all films were English-friendly and many were screened with English dialogue. A detailed list of films and timings for 2021 is yet to be announced, though the dates of March 4-7 for the Toldi and March 8-17 for tavmozi.hu can be marked in the calendar.
